The Lounge gets much needed funds from this years Picnic In The Park

Ugly bugThe Lounge youth project in Alvechurch was one of the beneficiaries of money from the Picnic in the Park held earlier this year.

Parish councillor David Matthews, Picnic in the Park committee member Louise Parkinson and parish councillor Natalie Wise presented a cheque for £558 to Sally Meredith and Dean Morgan of The Lounge – half of the total raised at the event.

Dean, who recently joined The Lounge as lead youth worker, commented: “I’m very happy to be here – I look forward to meeting as many young people as possible and making sure they are aware of the opportunities open to them.”

We are pleased to announce some replacement computers are on the way!

SCC main logoThanks to Specialist Computer Centres and the Technology Trust we will be replacing the old and slow XP machines and making them even more useful.

SCC, who donated the original machines when The Lounge first opened have once again donated 3 more replacement pcs  free of charge,so that the old ones can be taken out of service. They will, thanks to Technology Trust and Microsoft's charity donation scheme, be running Windows 8 and Microsoft Office 2013 as we were able to purchase these at heavily discounted pricing. These two things will not only allow us to continue to offer free internet access, but in addition, allow us to extend our options for training and community improvement schemes, such as CV writing, computer skills and job applications.

At this time, we will be still utilising the old monitors as these were not available from either SCC or the Technology Trust and our budget doesn't extend to replacements at this time. We hope to have the new  computers up and running in the next couple of weeks.
