PC replacements coming
We are pleased to announce some replacement computers are on the way!
Thanks to Specialist Computer Centres and the Technology Trust we will be replacing the old and slow XP machines and making them even more useful.
SCC, who donated the original machines when The Lounge first opened have once again donated 3 more replacement pcs free of charge,so that the old ones can be taken out of service. They will, thanks to Technology Trust and Microsoft's charity donation scheme, be running Windows 8 and Microsoft Office 2013 as we were able to purchase these at heavily discounted pricing. These two things will not only allow us to continue to offer free internet access, but in addition, allow us to extend our options for training and community improvement schemes, such as CV writing, computer skills and job applications.
At this time, we will be still utilising the old monitors as these were not available from either SCC or the Technology Trust and our budget doesn't extend to replacements at this time. We hope to have the new computers up and running in the next couple of weeks.
Ice Bucket Challenge
Thanks to those that have done the Ice Bucket Challenge and supported The Lounge.
We'd like to say thank you to those that have taken part in the (in)famous Ice Bucket Challenge, but opted to support a more local cause, that directly affects all our lives in one way or another.
If you want to support us in this way, or any by any other sponsored event, remember you can either donate directly, or set up a sponsorship page by clicking on the My Donate links on this site.
All money raised goes directly to Alvechurch Communities Together who manage The Lounge and associated projects.
Free Lemonade Factory
The Lounge will be hosting a FREE lemonade factory where you can come along and make some real lemonade and even print your own labels. It will be running from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday 31st August. So feel free to drop in and make some tasty lemonade. Oh did we say it was free?

This is an open event and is you chance to find out more about ACT and The Lounge and some of the work it has done, as well as the work it intends to do. Everyone is welcome to attend and is carried out in an informal manner and you will have your chance to ask questions to many of the people involved in the charity.
Volunteers Evening 14th July
Alvechurch Communities Together Management Group is very aware that we do not use the word thank you enough to our volunteers. We are very grateful for the help that you give us and appreciate that the project would not be where it is without the support of all those that help at the Lounge on a voluntary basis As a volunteer I am sure it is sometimes difficult to get an overview of what is actually happening with the project and almost impossible to spend some quality time with othervolunteers and staff.
We should therefore like to invite you to The Lounge on Monday 14th July at 7.30pm to share in some light refreshments, hear an overview of the successes and challenges of the project and meet other volunteers and staff in a relaxed atmosphere. In the meantime Sally and Emily are planning to set up a display in the Library during Volunteers' Week (2nd -6th June) to highlight the good work that is done by our volunteers and to encourage and inspire new people to support us in this way. With this in mind we have attached a questionnaire that will help us to get a volunteers' perspective on working at the Lounge. Please can you return to us by the end of this month? It is very important to us that you have your voice heard. Thank you once again for all your help and look forward to seeing you in July
