For the parents of those attending youth sessions.
Important information you need to know.
Many of you should of already received this letter, but for those that have not, please read the below as it contains some important information regarding some changes we are having to make.
I am writing to update you on some changes taking place at Youth@ The Lounge.
The Management Committee and Youth Workers have had to make some difficult decisions as to how to run the youth sessions for the remaining half of the Summer term. These decisions have been based on a number of factors which include our current poor financial situation, our limited staffing and the drop in the number of young people attending sessions. To address the first 2 factors we will not be running sessions on a Tuesday for the rest of the Summer term. This will allow us to concentrate our resources on the other 2 evenings with the view of re-introducing the Tuesday evenings in September. However, there will be some extra activities happening during the Summer half term including a screen printing workshop with The Artrix on a Tuesday in July.
To address the issue of a drop in numbers attending, we have made a few changes to how the remaining sessions will run in a hope of attracting a number of young people back to The Lounge. These include: reducing the entry fee to 50p, splitting the age groups (see below), offering a wider menu of cheap food and drink, providing the opportunity to get more involved in activities and also in the running of the youth sessions (by joining the Youth Forum). We're always open to suggestions from both the young people and their parents/guardians as to how we can improve the service so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any thoughts on how we can continue to improve. From the week beginning Monday 2nd June the sessions will run as follows
Years 11/12/13 (ages 15-18) - 7-9pm Upstairs at Social Club. Ben + Volunteers
Years 7/8 5-7pm (ages 11-13) - The Lounge Ben and Emily
Years 9/10 7.30-9.30 (ages 13-15)The Lounge Ben and Emily
7-7.30pm The Lounge Fortnightly
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents/guardians that these are drop in sessions where young people are free to arrive and leave at any time. Therefore, if the young people choose to leave the session to go to the shops or The Meadows we no longer have any responsibility for them. On occasion we do run sessions at other venues such as The Meadows and The Village Hall where the young people are under our care but in general our responsibilities are restricted to The Lounge premises. If you are unhappy about your young person leaving sessions to go to The Meadows etc. then please let me know and we can ensure that we inform the young person they should not leave and inform you if they still choose to do so.
If you would like to discuss any of this in more detail or would like clarification on any of the issues raised then please contact me at
