The Management Group of Alvechurch Communities Together are holding their AGM on the above date and invite all who are interested in this youth/community project to attend. The project has successfully operated for over four years. The current members of staff focus on the day-to-day tasks and smooth running of the youth activities and community café. This enables the Management Group to concentrate their time on developing the project further. The management group always offer a warm welcome to new members. If you feel you have a couple of hours a week that you can give back to your community, please come and help advance the initiative even further.
We welcome anyone who has an interest in what we are doing here at The Lounge to come along to this meeting.
Engaging, activity-based courses of between 10 and 60 hours
A way to develop and recognise personal skills, essential for effective learning, employment and full participation in community life
A pathway to a certificate of achievement and progression into other programmes and qualifications
‘The Lounge’ has been registered as an ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) Training Centre, which will facilitate the running of a range of courses for the young people of the Parish.
ASDAN is a curriculum development organisation and awarding body, offering in excess of 100 programmes and qualifications that explicitly grow skills for learning, skills for employment, and skills for life. Their purpose is “The advancement of education, by providing opportunities for all learners to develop their personal and social attributes and levels of achievement through ASDAN awards and resources.”
ASDAN Short Courses are flexible, take from between 10 to 60 hours to complete, and offer accessible curriculum based programmes with a nationally recognised certificate for a wide range of activities and subject areas. There are no age restrictions, although the main focus is on the 13–19 age groups.
Courses cover preparation for life and work, enrichment subjects, Personal Social Health & Education (PSHE), and Citizenship. Every course is designed to develop learners’ personal, transferable and employability skills through an engaging and challenging curriculum of activities, leading to a certificate of achievement.
Sally Meredithfrom Alvechurch Communities Together (ACT), the charity behind The Lounge and its youth work commented: “We are really excited at the prospect of being able to offer recognised training courses to the young people of the parish. We will be commencing our programme from September and will shortly be announcing which courses we will initially be running. ASDAN courses are nationally recognised and represent real value to our young people giving them the opportunity not only to develop their personal and employability skills, but also to obtain a nationally recognised certificate.”

We are hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Wednesday 23rd of September, between 9am and 2pm. As in previous years, we've choosen to hold it on the Wednesday prior to the main event, so that we don't clash with other venues taking part in the local community, meaning you have an excuse to treat yourself to cake and coffee twice in the same week! Everyone is welcome and we'd really love to see you come along and help support this fantastic cause.
If you are a seller on ebay, have you noticed the option to donate part of the selling price to charity? Alvechurch Communities Together (ACT) is now one of your options. If you would like to support Alvechurch Communities Together, who look after the Lounge, our Youth Work, and other related projects, simply add this as option when you are going through the selling process, just search for Alvechurch and you will see us listed. Donating some of your final sales price actually reduces your selling fees, so it's a win/win situation.
